“Every living creature will be food for you; as I gave the green plants, I have given you everything.” (Genesis 9:3)

No matter the insurmountable needs we face, no matter the challenges, He has given us “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine”! (Eph. 3:20) Earlier this year, Union Mission launched our sustainable agriculture program in order to combat the decline in food donations. The Sustainable Agriculture Program is designed to meet a variety of needs throughout our mission and is made up of multiple areas of focus. One of the areas of focus is pasture-raised poultry. Last Saturday, we reached a huge milestone as we had our first processing which produced hundreds of pounds of high quality, nutrient dense poultry. We are so thankful for the twenty volunteers who gave their time to work hard alongside our staff and program members. The fresh, non-GMO poultry will be used to feed
the hungry in the greater Kanawha Valley area as well as the men and women in our addiction recovery programs. In order to fund the continuation of our programs, our pasture-raised produce has also been made available for purchase at $4 per pound. For the men and women fighting drug addiction in our programs, natural, hormone free protein is vital. Oftentimes, those who suffer from addictions go without nutrient rich foods for lengthy periods of time. In conjunction with substance abuse, the individuals we come in contact with are desperate for nourishment. Research shows that consumption of protein allows for an accelerated recovery process in those with addiction due to the ability of essential amino acids to restore our body’s’ cells and organs as well as promote positive
mental health. Because of our Sustainable Agriculture program we are better able to provide the most nutritional food possible and encourage healthy eating in our recovery programs. How awesome is our God for providing everything we need!

Thank you for your prayers and partnership.
