I often use this space to keep you up-to-date on Union Mission business that has made a mark on me; perhaps a new employee, upcoming event, or department success. As donors, I want each of you to understand that we use your talents and financial gifts wisely, that we value and appreciate every gift you give, and that it is used for Kingdom business.

Many of the employment opportunities at the Union Mission require ministry ability, others not as much.  In the day to day, as believers in Jesus Christ, we all know that our testimony is much more than the words we say. How we handle routine life activities is just as important as how we express our faith. People are watching to see if what we say matches what we do … if Jesus really has changed our lives.

So when a staff member came to me and said they had an employee who wanted to be saved, I knew that what people had been saying about the Lord, and what they had seen Him do had grasped their heart. As an unsaved employee, this person had not only experienced the love of the Lord for themselves, but witnessed first hand how the Holy Spirit changes people’s lives.

From a child who had received a frozen pizza at the warehouse and was so grateful to have a “pizza night” with his family, to an employer willing to stop and pray over personnel situations, the Lord was able to open their heart to His loving kindness, while using their hands for his Kingdom. Their co-workers weren’t selfish and self-serving, but sacrificial in their love and care for each other. Instead of gossip and backbiting, conversation was filled with praise and prayer.

This is why we are here. While I often share stories of success from the point of view of those we serve, I want you to know that God is changing the lives of the ones He has chosen to serve Him, whether they know it or not. I was glad to stop everything and take the time to meet with them. They had a divine appointment, an opportunity to ask real heartfelt questions to someone whom they knew loved the Lord. And now, they serve for much more than a paycheck, but for a Lord who loves them, and loves through them. They now join us in our calling to “help hurting people in Jesus’ name.”
