If you happened to drive by the mission at the end of last month, you may have noticed a carnival-like atmosphere outside of our administrative building. For years, Union Mission has hosted our annual employee appreciation picnic at Kanawha State Forest in September prior to the big seasonal rush that comes around the corner. This year, however, I wanted to try something different.
Talk to any of our employees and I feel confident they would say working for the mission is both challenging and rewarding. As with any nonprofit organization, we can’t pay our staff private corporation pay rates but we can find other ways to incentivize them. At the First Annual Union Mission Employee Appreciation Fall Carnival (may need to work on that name), our directors hosted games for every employee to experience. They weren’t playing for cheap carnival gifts or stuffed animals, however. They were playing for personal time off!
It was a great day of excitement, food, and fun. We had games of skill, games of luck, and games that are kind of hard to explain. Each employee walked away with at least one prize and were able to take the rest of the day off.
I can’t express enough to you, our donors, how much I love our team of employees. They work hard all year long and really do a great job at managing the day to day operations. They share in our client’s successes and failures. Thank you for supporting Union Mission and helping us keep such a great team employed.
