Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the change of weather, the changing of leaves, and of course a new football season to enjoy. I love the thought of Thanksgiving being just around the corner and the excitement of a new hunting season that my son JJ and I can take part in. Fall is wonderful! The festivals and fellowships along with the food and fun, and call me crazy, but even the thought of a coming snow is exciting to me. Fall is without a doubt my favorite time of year.
I have also, since becoming President and CEO of Union Mission, learned to enjoy fall for another reason. I enjoy our annual food distributions for the Thanksgiving holiday. When I think back to past year’s Thanksgivings, I never had to worry about not having enough food on the table for my family. There were times that we didn’t have an abundance of food, especially when I was going through seminary, but God has always taken care of us and we’ve had enough. I do recognize that there are hungry people living in the great state of West Virginia. I know there are children who go hungry in the summer months because they do not have food provided by our school system. Food distribution gives me great pleasure in knowing that someone who may not have enough can experience a full belly just like the rest of us. I love the thought of a child sitting at a dinner table and having a full plate of food and the thought of a struggling parent being able to provide that food because of one of our Thanksgiving food distributions.
If you are interested in being a part of this year’s food distribution, or just have some questions about volunteering for this year’s Thanksgiving food distribution, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Susan Parsons. Call, (304)925-0366 and ask to speak to Susan. You too can experience what I have grown to love and very much look forward to each year. The thought of helping hurting people in the name of Jesus Christ. May God bless you.
