If you’ve been involved with Union Mission in the past, you know that we’re approaching our busiest time of year. Canned food drives, coat giveaways, Christmas Shop for children, Adopt-A-Family, Drumstick Dash, holiday dinners at Crossroads and our holiday food distributions are a part of our annual campaign. We are excited about the opportunity it provides; after all, it means we are able to reach more hurting people with assistance and send the message that they are loved and not forgotten.
This year Union Mission’s Outreach program is preparing for massive food distributions in the upcoming months and expects to deliver food to families in sixteen West Virginia counties.
“We are planning on providing three to four thousand food boxes to families needing extra help at our Thanksgiving food distribution and again at Christmas. It is a big undertaking and we appreciate everyone who has a role in making this possible,” says Outreach and Family Services Director John Mason.
Yet the benefit goes beyond even the food. Take Roy and Alice Wyne for example. Once a month, they and their three children receive much needed food at the Little Birch Southern Baptist Church, an outreach site of Union Mission. The food helps the family get through the month. What makes it even better is the family attended a church service and distribution a few weeks ago and made the decision to accept Christ. At that outreach, the family no only received food physically but also spiritually.
“With three kids, the food helps a lot,” says Alice Wyne. “If this pantry wasn’t here it would really make a difference to many families in the area. We appreciate the help and we wanted to give back so now our family helps distribute food to others each month. Our kids have really enjoyed it.” The Wynes family attend church and are involved in helping others, and it all started at a Union Mission food giveaway.
Union Mission will have no problem making sure needy families show up at our holiday food distributions, but we need your help to make sure there’s enough food! If you would like to get involved, it only takes $24.99 to help provide enough food to feed an entire family for several days. These food boxes go to families like the Wynes, who may not enjoy much of a nice holiday meal otherwise. Please consider investing in the lives of a needy family today! God has blessed us all mightily—let’s pass on that blessing!
