For Sabrina, addiction has darkened a long period of her life. At times she found herself in jail, or out of work, or with no place to stay. Today, however, she is celebrating a major milestone on her road to recovery.

“One of the consequences of my addiction led me to accumulate fines of over $3000,” she says. “I not only needed help with my addiction, but I needed guidance on how to rebuild my life and try to establish some financial responsibility. Union Mission’s Addiction Recovery Program helped in both areas.”

Recently, Sabrina was able to pay off all of her fines due to her hard work as a hairdresser through Union Mission’s vocational phase of the program.

“I was really struggling with how I was going to be able to pay that huge amount of money,” Sabrina explained. “Being enrolled in Union Mission’s Addiction Recovery Program, however, allowed me to put back a large chunk of my income. The day that I paid those fines off was an incredible day for me. It was just another burden Union Mission helped me lay down.”

Lindsay Stephens, Women’s Addiction Recovery Program Coordinator, commented on how well Sabrina performed during the vocational phase, “Many people struggling with addiction have a difficult time managing money. Sabrina really was eager to learn how to manage her finances. She really took this training seriously and it has literally paid o for her.” Sabrina is nearing graduation from the year-long program. While she is excited to begin a new life with a career and family close by, the departure will be bittersweet for her.

“I am looking forward to spreading my wings and starting new but I am really going to miss the ladies here at the Mission. While the last year has had some hard times, they were good to come alongside and help keep me grounded in my faith and recovery objectives. I don’t think I would be here today if it wasn’t for them.”
