“We Feed People, It’s What We Do”! It’s more than a motto! This is woven into every aspect of our programs, services and mission. We feed people physically, and spiritually. It’s been said that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. In fact, its’ hard to tell someone that God loves them while their stomachs are screaming out for something to eat!

In the Bible, James 2:14-17 tells us that if someone is hungry and we give not to meet their needs, …it’s like) faith that hath not works is dead, being alone”. Also, in John 4:16 -18, it says, “(if someone) sees his brother in need, and shutteth up his bowel of compassion…how dwelleth the love of God in him?”

Thus, we feel that we are Biblically mandated as well as have the responsibility to meet folk at their point of need. Not only are the homeless or those facing additions who are coming to us, but also families are coming to us requesting food. This is the primary need in Family Services and in the Outreach program.

With the challenges of unemployment in a large portion of our state, and specifically in the coalfield regions, families are struggling to survive. Not only miners, but also every level of business and community services in these areas are negatively impacted. Many are facing critical shortages of food to meet their daily needs. The June floods have adversely impacted so many areas. People lost everything, including all their possessions, vehicles and their homes. We have moved a tremendous amount of food, etc. into the flood zones as food centers are established to provide meals. We continue to distribute food to individuals as well as to centers who are assisting area residents.

Perhaps you, as a reader of this newsletter, have never been without food, or at least not for an extensive period of time.

Please understand that the ongoing needs are beyond our minds and our ability to comprehend. Union Mission will be providing food for hungry individuals, families and communities as long as the need exists.

It’s only with your help that this can be accomplished. We receive no government assistance but are able to service through the generosity of individuals, churches, businesses, and some foundations.

Will you partner with us this holiday season?
